Green electron' and AI Data Centres to Herald New Infra Push: Gautam Adani
Gautam Adani, Chairman of the Adani Group, highlighted the transformative role of 'green electron' and artificial intelligence (AI) data centres in India's infrastructure growth trajectory. Speaking at Crisil Ratings’ ‘Annual Infrastructure Summit’, Adani reflected on India's infrastructure journey, likening its development to the preparation of a runway before the takeoff phase witnessed from 2014 to 2024.
Adani projected that the next decade would witness over $100 billion in investments by the Adani Group in the energy transition sector. This investment aims to expand the integrated renewable energy value chain, covering the manufacturing of essential components for green energy generation.
"While every nation faces challenges, India's true growth is yet to unfold. The foundation is laid for creating trillion-dollar market spaces", Adani remarked during his keynote address.
He emphasized the pivotal role of 'green electron', derived from non-emitting sources such as wind and solar, in driving economic progress. Adani predicted limitless growth potential for the market of green electrons, envisaging them as essential for sectors striving to meet sustainability mandates.
Adani underscored the significance of AI-driven data centres in the upcoming revolution, noting their crucial role in supporting machine learning algorithms, natural language processing, computer vision, and other AI functions. These data centres, essential for processing data at unprecedented scales and speeds, are poised to become pivotal in the AI era.
However, the substantial energy demands of data centres also make them the largest consumers of energy globally, blending the needs of energy transition with those of digital transformation.
"The infrastructure for energy transition and digital transformation are inseparable, with the technology sector emerging as the foremost consumer of green energy," Adani emphasized.
He revealed that the Adani Group currently holds India's largest order book for data centres and is exploring additional gigawatt-scale AI data centre projects to meet growing demand.
At the recent Outreach Session of the G7 Summit, Prime Minister Narendra Modi highlighted India's commitment to achieving Net Zero emissions by 2070, underscoring the nation's leadership in fulfilling COP commitments ahead of schedule.
"In the coming era, we aim to create a Green Era, aligning with global efforts for sustainability", Prime Minister Modi affirmed.
Gautam Adani's vision integrates sustainable energy solutions with cutting-edge technology infrastructure, positioning India to capitalize on the opportunities presented by 'green electrons' and AI-powered data centres in driving economic growth and environmental stewardship.
